OIB Records open their own Brighton venue: The Freebutt !!!

We've been working on this deal for nearly a year now but now we can FINALLY announce that OIB Records have teamed up with fellow promoters Ejector Seat and Buy Yourself to purchase THE FREEBUTT venue in Brighton!!! It's a really exciting move for us and we're incredibly proud to be part of the new era of such a seminal venue.

The Freebutt is a real institution in Brighton, it's a 150 capacity venue that's a stable of any new bands careers that's worth it's weight. Over the past few years the Freebutt has played host to early shows from the likes of Yeah Yeah Yeah's, Liars, The Libertines, The Pipettes, British Sea Power, The Gossip, Bat For Lashes, Gallows, The Decemberists, Deerhoof, Rolo Tomassi, Explosions in the Sky, Fucked Up, Lift to Experience, Panda Bear, Pete Doherty, Future of the Left, Razorlight, You Me At Six, Frightened Rabbit, Ex Models, Blood Red Shoes, Micacu & The Shapes, The Mae Shi, Dananananaykroyd, Vivian Girls...and many more.

 

We've been mentally busy recently renovating both the 150 capacity live room downstairs and the cozy and kitch Penthouse bar upstairs. We're about 70% of the way through the renovations but we've still got some really exciting little surprises up our sleeves for both.

We have DJ night's upstairs in the Penthouse bar nearly every night along with cheap drinks offers available all day and night including pints from just £2.50 and spirit doubles from £3.50. Here's a few highlights from the Penthouse DJ roster:

 

1st Thursday of the month

N.F.R. - champions of all things new, independant & DIY

 

2nd Saturday of the month

Ultrasound System - a unique mix of boundary-pushing bass-heavy dubstep, ukfunky, garage, hip-hop, r'n'b and d'n'b to get you ravin.

 

4th Friday of the month

No More Mr Lofi - uber-fun mix of indie/pop/whatever with ever changing theme nights

 

Last Thursday of the month

Fluff On The Needle - The Go! Team and pals spin an eclectic mix of badass records.

 

Last Sunday of the month

Hip Hop Karaoke - Ain't nothin' but a party, y'all. It's already a massive success in New York, Toronto, London... all over the place and this is our own version down here by the sea. No bullshit attitude, no gangsta posturing, just people who love hip hop having a good time. And drinking. Come spit it on the mic to a selection of hip hop classics!

 

Every Sunday afternoon

Felt Up Craft Club - Hang out in the Penthouse with the Felt Up Craft Club and work on personal and joint craft projects, stitch and bitch, get help with what your working on, listen to DJ's, drink and have fun. Check www.myspace.com/feltupcraftclub for details on what is going on week by week.
